China Covid Monitor

While the rest of the world lives with COVID-19, China continues with dynamic zero COVID. There is increasing interest in how COVID-19 is evolving in the country, as well as the policies aimed at limiting its spread. This is particularly important during 2022 and 2023 when China may move towards opening up. Although there are other tools aimed at national comparison, there are fewer sources of subnational comparison despite considerable divergence in COVID-19 policy at this level. This dashboard aims to fill that gap, providing pertinent national-, provincial-, and city-level indicators with which to understand the dynamic and nuanced picture of life in zero COVID China.

Note: Top ten cities by economic activity. City level restrictions are principally based on the designation of specific high/medium/low risk areas. When only sporadic cases are present and no specific guidance are available, it is considered that no restrictions are in place. Requirements on PCR test results may vary by district within a city; only city level policy announcements are used for visualization.
